Meet Our New Board Member: Pastor Michael Young – A Champion for Community and Education

May 28, 2025

We’re thrilled to welcome Michael Young, Lead Pastor of The City of Grace in Central Ohio, to the Board of Directors at Future Ready Five. Michael brings a deep well of experience, compassion, and community insight to our mission of advancing kindergarten readiness for all children—especially those facing barriers related to poverty and access.

A Life of Service—In Business, Education, and Faith

With over 25 years of professional experience, Michael has worn many hats. For 18 years, he worked in corporate America within the insurance industry. But even while climbing the corporate ladder, his heart was always with the community. Alongside a business partner, Michael co-founded a supplemental education program that served approximately 500 inner-city youth annually across cities like Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo, and Dayton. These programs focused on Math, Reading, and Science, specifically targeting children from low-income backgrounds who qualified for free and reduced lunch.

Eventually, Michael transitioned fully into his pastoral calling, becoming the full-time Lead Pastor at The City of Grace. Under his leadership, the church has grown into a vibrant and diverse community where people from all walks of life come together to serve and uplift others.

Why Future Ready Five?

Michael’s personal and professional roots are deeply planted in Central Ohio. “I’m a product of Columbus Public Schools and this community,” he shares. “What this organization is doing—a younger version of myself would’ve been a recipient of it.”

His lived experience and past role as CEO of a statewide tutoring service make him uniquely positioned to understand the educational gaps facing our youngest learners. His passion for empowering young people—especially those living in poverty—aligns perfectly with Future Ready Five’s mission.

Pastor Michael Young accepts the Courage in Mental Health Award from Franklin County Board of Commissioners President, Erica Crawley, at The Soul Talks Mental Health Summit on May 19, 2025.

A Voice for the Community

Michael’s work as a pastor provides him with a rare and valuable perspective. He interacts daily with individuals from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds—from elected officials and corporate executives to families facing systemic challenges. “The work I do keeps me connected to people who are navigating real-life issues,” he says. “I hear their passions, their concerns—and I hope to bring those voices to the table.”

We are honored to have Michael’s leadership, insight, and deep community connections guiding our work. His presence strengthens our board and reinforces our shared mission: to ensure every child enters kindergarten ready to thrive.
