We’re excited to welcome Lauren Hagan, Chief Executive Officer of the Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML), to the Board of Directors at Future Ready Five. Lauren brings a unique blend of financial expertise, public leadership, and a deep-rooted passion for early childhood education—making her an invaluable addition to our mission of ensuring every child enters kindergarten ready to thrive.
A Career Rooted in Education
and Public Service
Lauren began her career in public accounting before moving into the world of higher education at the University of Chicago, where she served in various roles in finance and operations. Her work there sharpened her strategic thinking and organizational leadership skills—tools she would carry into her next chapter.
In 2021, Lauren joined Columbus Metropolitan Library as Chief Financial Officer and quickly became an instrumental leader in shaping the library’s direction. In October 2024, she was named CEO, becoming the steward of one of Central Ohio’s most trusted institutions for education and access. Under her leadership, CML continues to expand its reach and deepen its commitment to literacy, equity, and community engagement.
Why Future Ready Five?
For Lauren, joining the board of Future Ready Five is a natural extension of her life’s work.
“The work we do at the library focuses a lot on early literacy and kindergarten readiness, so there’s a lot of overlap,” she explains. “From a personal perspective, I’ve previously served on the board of an early childhood education organization and saw firsthand the benefit of investing in kids during those first five years.”
Her belief in the power of early investment is more than professional—it’s personal. Lauren sees early childhood education as foundational to a strong, thriving community, and she’s committed to helping more children access the tools they need to succeed.

A Strategic Mind and Collaborative Spirit
Lauren brings a wealth of knowledge to Future Ready Five, including a strong background in finance, strategic operations, and nonprofit governance. But beyond the numbers, she offers something equally important: a collaborative mindset.
“One of the things we’ve done really well at the library is fostering collaboration and community partnerships,” Lauren shares. “That’s something I hope to bring to my work with Future Ready Five.”
She also sees great potential for deeper alignment between Future Ready Five and Columbus Metropolitan Library—a connection that could amplify both organizations’ impact on early learners across Central Ohio.
